〜ないでください
In another lesson, we learned how to ask politely for people to do something with the て-form of verbs and ください. In this lesson, you will learn how to ask people to not do something with the construction 〜ないでください.
At the end of this lesson, you will be able to ask politely to someone to not do something.
〜ないでください consists of ないで which is the 〜ない form of verbs and ください which can be translated to 'please'.
いかないでください。
Ikanaide kudasai.
Please don't go.
あぶないですから、もりにいかないでください。
Abunai desu kara, mori ni ikanaide kudasai.
Since it is dangerous, do not go into the forest.
今からパソコンをさわらないでください。
Ima kara pasokon o sawaranaide kudasai.
From now on, please, do not touch my computer.
We can omit ください to make the sentence more casual.
これたべないで!どくだよ。
Kore tabenaide! Doku da yo.
Do not eat that! It's poison.
この水をのまないで。
Kono mizu o nomanaide.
Do not drink this water.
はがみをわすれないでね。
Hagami o wasurenaide ne.
Don't forget to brush your teeth.
To make the sentence even more casual, we can use the verb in their dictionary form and add な.
なくな。
Naku na.
Don't cry.
たべるな。
Taberu na.
Don't eat.
くるな。
Kuru na.
Don't come.
みるな。
Miru na.
Don't look.
