Grammar
Japanese grammar is very different from English grammar and can be a bit overwhelming for non-native speakers due to the fact that Japanese has different levels of keigo (politeness) and works on context-based situations. You will notice that Japanese doesn't use pronouns like in English, thus making it difficult at times to pinpoint what people are really talking about. Japanese also is an avid user of the passive voice, which we seldom use in English. The verbs are also at the end of a clause or a sentence, contrary to English, which verbs almost always follow the subject, making the order a little difficult to master at first. There is also no space between words in Japanese, making it difficult sometimes to differentiate words in a sentence. Finally, Japanese, very much like Korean, uses particles to help making sense of the sentences, which do not exist in English.
We will see all of these grammar points throughout the lessons. The lessons are divided according to the JLPT levels (N5 to N1, N5 being beginner level and N1 being near-fluent level).
